2019 is The International Year of Indigenous Languages. My grandmother grew up with Sami speaking parents, but due to the Norwegianization she never learned the language.
The tree becomes a metaphor for the severe consequences of replacing one language with another. If you cut a branch, it will affect all future generations. Through their focus on indigenous languages, music and culture, Riddu Riđđu gives hope to indigenous people all around the globe.
